Be Careful the Japanese Thinking!

America atomic bomb exploded at Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6, 1945 has stop the world war Ⅱ and a few hundred thousand of Japanese died in this tragedy!

However, kind America is helping Japan to be one of the world's stronger economic and military power.

By right, the Japanese should be very happy with their present position. Japanese should bear in mind that without America tolerant policy they will not be able to recover so fast from the war as a defeated country. The Japanese should also remember how many Pacific Regional people have been killed in the war created by them.

But the Japanese cannot forget the American bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and are not grateful to the good help of America.

One can see very often that s demsonstration against America military base in Japan and evidence proved that the Cabinet of Japan government in favor of worshiping at the Yasukuni Shrina longer than those do not.

From these events, one can see the majority of Japanese are still very much in favor admiring their war heros. Therefore, they don’t want American military base in Japan to keep an eye on them. And they are eager to build up their military power quietly. America should be careful of the Japanese thinking.

In view of this American leaders should be clever enough, not to help Japan to build up their military power any more. Otherwise, another attack like Pearl Harbor may happen one day who know?

The Pacific regional people especially those have been living under the Japan occupation would be very happy if America can convince Japan not tocreate any more war in this region and advise them there are many Pacific regional countries people who are still very worried of the Japanese’s bellicose manner.

Hello ST Liu,

I do not think that the Japanese Govt. or the Japanese people is against the US.
Do not forget that after the Japanese defeat during WW II,Japan was occupied by the US under General McArthur and under this regime Japan recovered quickly to become the second largest economy by GDP in about 40 years. Moreover, its wartime constitution was changed to try to prevent Japan to resort to military hostility as it did prior to 1940.
The demostrations against the US that you mentioned were confined to Okinawa, where the US military is based. The demonstrations arose because US military personnels were guilty of sex crimes against local Japanese and those culprits were exempted from trial under Japanese laws. But this situation has changed because of local protests, and the military base is still in Okinawa.
With the rise of China,it is inconceivable that Japan will remove itself from the US military umbella in the Pacific.Japan does not have nuclear weapons but could easily acquired these in a short time as it is technically and materially capable although its current constitution does not allow this.
The propensity of some Japanese politicians to worship at Yakasuni is more damaging to Japanese image aboard, especially in SE Asia where it committed astrocities during WW II,and entrenches the mistrust that some countries have of Japanese's intentions in the Asia-Pacific.Although Japan has apologised to China for the Nanking massacre,it did not come across as a final atonement for its war crimes in the way that the Germans were able to do for the Holocaust. This is partly because Japanese history books still do not reflect historical facts while it is a crime in Germany to deny the existence of the Holocaust.

Recently, the Japanese cabinet recently pproved a bill that allows Japan to help the US logistically(refueling facilities) in the Afganistan war.

Robert

Dear Robert,

Yes,the Japanese should not against the US.In fact they should grateful to the help of US!

But they does not becuase the Japan's super power in WW II was destroyed by the US atomic bomb. The Japanese seem cannot forget their defeat of the war was caused by US.Therefore the majority of Japanese still very much in favor of their war heros. After more than 60 years there are still more and more Japnese politicians insist to go to worship the Yasukuni shrine despite strong protection from China as well as the objection from the US!

Therefore the leaders of US should be careful to the thinking of Japanese before it was too late!

Hello St Liu,

While I agree that while some Japanese politicians have not stopped their annual visits to Yasukuni shrine,I do not think that they habour any hatred or revenge aginst the US.It is not easy for those who were borned before WII and had lived through it to forget their country's defeat. But this generation of people or politicians will be replaced with those borned after the war.
Two previous PM's, Abe and Yoshida, refrained from such visits although they were under pressure to do so.This is a step change as previous PM,Koshumi, continued such visits despite external pressures.

Even if I accept your premise that Japan habors aggressive intent against the US,I do not think it will be able to stand up against the US militarily. It had seen the results and effects of a nuclear device being exploded over Nagasaki and Horoshima. To invite another nuclear destruction of a larger magnitude defies logic.

Some politicians will continue to visit Yasukuni to satisfy their constituents. But this will pass with a new generation of Japanese.

Hi Robert,

I hope the relation between the US and Japan will be as sincere as you predicted the world will be peaceful and beuatiful as you wish.
But the Chinese proverb said "Be on guard,Should bear in mind"

Do not forget there eigther forever friends nor enemies.

Therefore my advice to the US is "prevent better than cure".

Hello St Liu,
I think that the Japanese govt is realistic to the extent that current conditions are obviously different from those that existed in the 1940's.
Then China was weak and internally factious and it did not possessed nuclear weapons;US was inward looking but it is now a superpower seeking alliances worldwide to buttress and enhance its position;the world was less interdependent and globalization was non-existent.
The advent of nuclear weapon has changed the existential vulnerability of nations. No nation can hope to survive a nuclear war and japan knows that better than most.
