Is Japan the aggressor in World War II?

Subject: Is Japan the aggressor in World War II?
In a award-winning article General Staff of the Air Force Japan said that Japan was not the aggressor in World War II.
He wrote "Japan's past aggression against China is ensure that China abide by its international obligations according to treaty. TheKorean Peninsula was under Japan’s colonial rule. It was prosperous and secure. Japan involvement in World War II was because President Roosevelt were manipulated by the Communists, Japan had no alternative but to go to war. Many people think Japan was the 'Greatest East Asia Aggressor', and in many parts of Asia it had caused unbearable pain. But we must understand this a number of Asia countries had positive view of the war. Although Japan occupied Thailand, Myanmar, India, Singapore and Indonesia , the people still respected the Japanese. He said that the people who accused that Japan as the aggressor was wrong..
My advice to the United States to be careful of the Japanese thinking is correct. Please remember that the Japanese complained that "Japan's war is being forced by President Roosevelt" They will always have this in their mind…as such the United States has to be careful

Hello Liu,
Having you heard the adage:Politics make strange bedfellows.

No matter how much and how often the Japanese deny that their country was an aggressor during WW2,present leaders and people of countries that suffered under its conquest will never accept this position.Remember,Japan was punished by the Americans with two atomic bombs and this has left an indelible mark on the Japanese's existential psyche.
Your view is too simplistic as it is only based on a statement by a former minister. What other reasons or policy changes in Japanese foreign policy that has led to such a conclusion?
The one thing that I concede is that the Japanese govt. has not completely atoned for its war astrocities in the same way the Germans have done. But this is no reason to suspect and suggest that they will embark on a conflict with the US.Conditions prior to WW2 and now are totally changed and radically different.
Japan developed industrially under the leadership and help of the Americans and it was, until recently, the second largest economy in the world after the United States.

Japan has been an ally of the US since the mid 1940's because it was and still is strategically convenient for it to do so.It cannot develop nuclear weapons because of its constitution.

Economically,Japan is also dependent on the US in terms of exports. In 2007,Japanese exports comprise of 13.1% of its GDP;and its exports to the US is 22.4% of total exports.
So militarily and economically Japan and US are joined at the hip.It would be foolish to incur the wrath its closest ally by resorting to aggression or threats.

Another geopolitical factor has come to the forth with the rise of China.I do not think that the Chinese have forgotten that the Japanese seized Manchuria in 1931.Neither will the Japanese think that China has forgotten this period in their history.
China has always exerted that its rise is a peaceful one.But the Japanese has,and will continue to hedge this risk by aligning with the US and stay under its defence umbrella.US too wants to slow or thwart the economic growth of China and its desire to be a superpower. In order to try to achieve this aim,US need allies in Asia-Pacific which will provide logistical facilities and strategic bases for its armed forces.Japan is strategically located vis'a vis China.
So i do not accept your simplistic view.

Hello Liu,
You are too simplistic in your thinking. The issue you raised goes beyond whether Japan was an aggressor but whether should US be weary of close ties with Japan.
If you read my comments carefully,I wrote that countries which suffered under the Japanese occupation have, and will continue to say that Japan was the aggressor.Unfortunately, some Japanese politicians continue to deny this interpretation.
