Hongkong ( AsiaTimes Online) pointed out that the U.S. defence budget is six times more than China and the number of United States children learning piano is only one-sixth of China.The different way of using national resources will have the impact on the growth of the next generation.
This is not to look down the future of the American people nor to raise the Chinese future position.But to remind the leaders of the United States..that they should adjust the allocation of their resources in a timely manner.
Spending on military development and ignore the living standard of the people may one day cause the downfall of the United States!
The new elect-president of United States in looking at change of policies shoulde bear in mind to reduce the defence budget ..or else the U.S. children may have to serve coffee for Chinese bosses in 20-30 years time!
However, according to the new President recent comment that he will transfer all the army in Iraq to fight in Afghanistan until victory. In this case,the U.S. future defence budget will surely have to increase instead of decrease!.

Hello Mr Liu,your defense spending comparison is mistaken.It should be compared as a percentage of GDP.In 2007,US defense spending is 3.8% of its GDP while Singapore's is 4.7%.Based on the ranking by the Economist magazine,Singapore's defense spending in 2007 ranks 18th
position versus 28th for the US.
I do not have the defense spending of China in terms of its 2007 GDP but analysts are suggesting that its defense spending is rising 10% per year of late.
Based on your agrument Singapore will be serving coffee to Chinese bosses before the US and we are not even fighting a war.
Chins's 2007 GDP is US$ 1,932 bil while the US' is US$11,712bil.Now I hope you see the difference.

Mr Liu,We are not living in an ideal world.A strong defense is a effective offense in times of war.Even for a small country like Singapore,it is spending 4.8% of its GDP on defense.Ask yourself why?
Human history is dominated by conflicts
between nations.China's history is equally precoccupied by rise and fall of dynasties and empires through conflicts/wars.
So you need to recognise that as long as human beings have the propensity to inflict violence or to achieve territorial imperative,defense is inevitable.
